Good Community: Don’t Delay Prioritizing Your Mental Health

Hi there! It’s Pam, Marketing and Communications Manager, at FarBridge 👋

We’re breaking away from our usual format to crack the fourth wall for a brief moment in this month’s Good Community installment because…

The truth is that May was an extremely challenging month for me personally, and that meant focusing my energy where it was needed most: at home, in the real-life moments unfolding.

So the irony isn’t lost on me that this meant publishing this blog post after Mental Health Awareness Month, for mental health safe-keeping reasons. Because sometimes things in life happen that will disrupt everything you’ve meticulously planned. However, sharing these resources is an evergreen good thing to do!

We all face challenges, and they don’t all neatly fall inside the boundaries of their designated months. An important part of starting FarBridge the way we did, was making an environment where we could roll with the punches and help each other past challenges and obstacles of all types.

If you are struggling and need mental health support, we’ve compiled a list of resources that have been recommended to us personally and organizations we’ve found online. Although Mental Health Awareness Month has passed, we encourage you to take advantage of the resources provided by these orgs or share them with anyone you think might be interested:

Take This

Take This is a mental health advocacy organization with a focus on the game industry and community. They provide resources, training, and support individuals and companies that help the gaming community improve its mental well-being and resilience. The organization addresses the underlying conditions that can create and perpetuate mental health challenges: stigma, harmful studio culture, harassment and toxicity, lack of diversity and accessibility, and problematic game and community design.

The main goal of Safe In Our World is to create and foster worldwide mental health awareness within the video game industry: to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health, to make it a natural topic of discussion, and to promote the dialogue surrounding mental health so people are not afraid to reach out for help if they need it.
