FarBridge & CyArk bring “MasterWorks: Journey Through History” to Oculus Go

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE : PRESS RELEASE

May 2, 2018 — F8 Conference, San Jose, CA

Yesterday Mark Zuckerberg announced the launch and retail availability of Facebook’s first standalone virtual reality device, the Oculus Go. Developed by the Oculus team as a natural progression in their line of VR hardware, the Oculus Go features a lower price, sleeker design, and more intuitive user interface than existing VR devices. The goals seem clear: Affordability. Usability. Portability.

With the Go’s surprise release, the race is on to get applications ready for market as quickly as possible. Select studios were tasked with building the first wave of applications for the launch of Facebook’s innovative VR headset, and as such, have a head start in terms of new problems solved.

FarBridge, an experienced VR/AR software studio, partnered with CyArk, a non-profit dedicated to the digital preservation of international sites, to create “MasterWorks: Journey Through History” for the launch of the Oculus Go.

“MasterWorks,” now free for download on the Oculus Go, Oculus Rift, and Gear VR, has been extremely well received — setting the new standard for photorealistic VR experiences. FarBridge and CyArk worked closely with the teams at Facebook and Oculus to bring four important and iconic historic sites to life, using their internal tools and platforms to optimize the experience for the unique technical demands of the Oculus Go.

“The Oculus Go is a huge step forward for the virtual reality industry,” says Patrick Curry, FarBridge’s CEO. “We’re no longer trying to trick a smart phone or desktop computer into delivering VR. The Oculus Go is an entirely new platform, focused exclusively on VR, with new technical, user experience, and business problems to solve. It’s super exciting!”

Curry has 20 years of experience in the video game industry, with numerous mobile, console, PC, and VR credits to his name. He’s a recognized expert in virtual reality, having lectured at the University of Texas, Texas State University, SXSW, PAX, RTX, and the Austin Forum on virtual reality and other immersive technologies.

FarBridge is leading the way in technical production for the Oculus Go, creating tools and middleware that make it easy to bring content to life on next generation all-in-one VR devices. FarBridge is ready to bring more quality and meaningful content to this new platform.
